Dane Villas, South Africa

Dane Villas

Wicket-keeper Dane Vilas has emerged as one of a number of contenders to step up and replace Mark Boucher behind the stumps for South Africa.
He got his first taste of international cricket in March 2012 when South Africa played India in a one-off Twenty20 International but in a rain-affected game, he was only called on to keep wicket for 7.1 overs.
He had batted and kept his way into the selectors’ thoughts prior to that with excellent performances for the Lions and Cape Cobras.

He has an excellent conversion rate, indicative of a hunger for run-scoring and ability in limited overs cricket to accelerate and score telling innings when required.

However, in his first five one-day matches for South Africa A, he failed to pass 19 in a series against Zimbabwe A, so there is still work to do if he is to wrest the gloves away from AB de Villiers.
